3 Negotiation Tricks to learn from Kids

Kids are great at negotiation. They get what they want, well almost. This is why we see some products do pester marketing through kids to sell their products. It’s time we learn a few tricks from them.

1) Say Please

Even if we cannot say it as cute as they would. It’s better to start with one. Requesting during negotiation works better. Everyone likes some freedom while negotiating, don’t go demanding something even if you deserve it.

2) Create a Win – Win Situation

The kids are natural at this. If you want something done, you have to give them something. They offer to clean up their room for an extra scoop of ice cream. This is a win – win situation, the child gets what he wants by giving a value to their parents. The negotiation should be beneficial to both the sides.

3) Explain Why

When the kids ask for something, they also tell you a lengthy story why they need it. During negotiation try explaining why your request is justified. Tell them the benefits it would have for you and them because of what you’re asking for. Don’t be afraid to ask. Most people factor in some space for negotiation.
